A Case Report of Chyluria with Proteinuria - Filarial origin ?

چکیده
Filarial infections are common in most tropical and subtropical regions of the world. We report a case of chyluria due to lymphourinary fistula in a filarial antigen negative case, the diagnosis of which was confirmed by the demonstration of microfilariae in urine as well as in peripheral blood only after diethyl carbamazine (DEC) provocation test. So In endemic areas, workup of filarial infection should be considered in a patient with chyluria even if the filarial antigen is non-reactive and microfilaria cannot be demonstrated initially.

Successful treatment of massive proteinuria and severe chyluria by inhibition of cholesterol absorption with ezetimibe in a patient with filariasis
We describe a case of filariasis presenting with severe chyluria and nephrotic-range proteinuria. There were no obvious findings of glomerulonephritis in the renal biopsy. Technetium-99m-human serum albumin (Tc-99m-HSA) lymphoscintigraphy revealed the presence of communications between lymphatic channels and the urinary tract. Ezetimibe (10 mg/day) was administered during hospitalization. Chylu...

There are few reports of "microfilaria in the urine." We report an elderly woman with gross hematuria who was being investigated for urinary tract tuberculosis. Three consecutive urine samples showed microfilaria of Wuchereria bancrofti. However, she did not have chyluria. Treatment with diethylcarbamazine cleared up the hematuria within 3 days. Chyluria, hematuria, and hematochyluria are probl...
متن کاملChyluria associated with nephrotic-range proteinuria: pathophysiology, clinical picture and therapeutic options.
Chyluria denotes the urinary excretion of chyle, which is a lymphatic fluid rich in chylomicrons. Chyle flows from the intestinal lacteals to the left subclavian vein through the thoracic duct. When an abnormal connection between these structures and the urinary tract develops, chyluria appears. The syndrome is often associated with a nephrotic-range proteinuria, and this could be a wrong indic...
متن کاملFrom red to white urine: a patient's nightmare with a rather benign outcome
BACKGROUND Chyluria is a medical condition with presence of chyle in the urine. The disease is most prevalent in endemic regions of Africa and the Indian subcontinent where it is mostly caused by parasitic infections, particularly lymphatic filariasis due to wucheria bancrofti. Non-parasitic chyluria, however, is a very rare finding. CASE PRESENTATION We report the case of a 48 year old woman...
